【ハリウッドより愛をこめて】数多くのセレブらが熱い支援「ガンバレ、ニッポン！」

日本にいる読者のみなさんへ、この度の大地震や津波、原発の災害に対する日本のみなさんの対応は素晴らしいものだと感じています。現在、みなさんが置かれている不安で悲しい状況に対して、これほどの強さと品格をもって受け止められる国は、世界中どこを探しても日本しかないでしょう。改めて、第二の故郷である日本を誇りに思います。私事ですが、仙台は私が日本に引っ越してきて初めて住んだ街です。5歳から8歳まで仙台で過ごし、私はこの街を“地元”と呼んでいました。だから、ニュースで現地の悲惨な状況を見たときはショックを隠しきれませんでした。しかし、いまはこの危機を乗り越えようとしている日本の方々の姿に感服しています。私だけではなくアメリカ中の人々が、日本人のたくましさに驚くと共に、とても感心しています。

こんなときにこそ、人の本性が表れるのだと私は思います。その例として、数多くのセレブたちが、自身の名の下に募金を集めるなど日本のために立ち上がっています。この事態に同情し、何かできることはないかとまず最初に名乗りを挙げたのは、ここ2、3年で日本でも人気を集めてきた、レディー・ガガ。おそらく、いま最も人気の“国際的スター”のひとりである彼女は、日本のために募金を訴えた最初のセレブでもあります。彼女は“We Pray for Japan”と書かれた、一個5ドルの赤と白のリストバンドを自身の公式サイト上で販売し、売上を寄付すると発表。その48時間後には、ガガは同サイト上で、“リトル・モンスターズ（彼女のファンの愛称）”が5万個ものリストバンドを購入してくれことを賞賛！　たった2日間で25万ドルもの寄付を集めたのです。

同日、日本でも人気のロックバンド、「リンキン・パーク」も公式サイト上でのTシャツの発売を発表。Tシャツのデザインは2種類あり、バンドメンバーであるマイク・シノダがデザインしたもので、価格は各25ドル。売上の全額が彼らが率いるチャリティ団体「Music for Relief」に寄付されます。一方、ケイティ・ペリーも自身のコンサートで販売するグロウスティック（蛍光リストバンド）の売上全額を日本に寄付すると発表。ツイッター上でもファンやコンサートに行く人々に向けて、協力を呼びかけていました。

音楽界では他にも、パンク・ロックバンド「Blink−182」のメンバー、マーク・ホッパスはオークションサイト「eBay」でバンドのコレクションアイテムを出品。売上の全額が義援金として日本に送られます。さらに、震災の約一週間前に、最新作のPV収録のため日本を訪れていたという「ブラック・アイド・ピーズ」は、その映像の最後に赤十字への寄付を呼びかけるメッセージを追加しました。

一方、映画界ではオスカー女優のサンドラ・ブロックが「日本の被災者の方々を救うため、100万ドルを寄付した」と発表しました。この金額は、ひとりのハリウッド・スターによる寄付額としては、過去最高のもの。別のニュースでは、ウォルト・ディズニーが日本の被災者のためアメリカ赤十字に250万ドルを寄付し、従業員からも最大100万ドルの寄付を募ることにしたそうです。同様にワーナー・ブラザースも、クリント・イーストウッド監督最新作で、マット・デイモン主演の映画『ヒアアフター』のDVDとブルーレイの売上の一部を赤十字に寄付することを約束しました。

みなさん、マイケル・ジャクソンもいつも美しく歌っていたように、「YOU ARE NOT ALONE（ひとりじゃないよ）」という言葉を忘れないでください。いつもそばで私たちは応援し、力になることを約束します。頑張れ、ニッポン!!

First of all, I can't even begin to tell you, my readers, how VERY PROUD I am of how Japan has handled this terrible earthquake/tsunami/nuclear threat disaster that has hit you as a country.There is NO OTHER country that would handle such pressure and adversity with such strength and grace. And I am proud to say that Japan is MY home country.On a person note, Sendai was actually the first city that I ever lived in when I moved to Japan. I was there from 5-8yrs old. And I have always called Sendai my "jimoto".So I was so devastated to see all the damage.
Now I am not alone in being SO impressed with the way all of you have handled this crisis. Everyone here in the United States is also very impressed and astonished at how strong you all are.

I believe it is in times like this that REAL character is shown. Speaking of showing character...there are many celebrities that have been standing up and using their fame to help raise money for the cause. The FIRST one to really show compassion and make a difference is a celebrity who, over the past two years or so, has become very popular here in Japan. I am talking about Lady Gaga...
She is probably right now one of the most popular "international stars" and she was also one of the FIRST celebrities to raise money for Japan. She announced that she was going to raise money for Japan by selling red and white wristbands which say "We Pray for Japan", on her website for $5 in the US. Forty-eight hours later Lady Gaga got on her site to praise her "little monsters" (which is what she calls her fans) for ordering 50,000 wristbands! (raising $250,000 in two days).

On the same day, LInkin Park (another favorite in Japan) started taking orders to sell t-shirts on their site. The two t-shirt designs which were designed by band member Mike Shinoda, cost $25 each and 100% of the proceeds goes to Music for Relief, a group dedicated to raise money for disaster relief.
Meanwhile just recently Katy Perry, has announced that she will be donating all the money from the "glow sticks" that she sells at her merchandise booth to Japan. And she also tweeted to her fans and concert goers , asking them to all contribute and buy them.

Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 has put up a lot of one-of-a-kind band memorabilia on eBay, and all sales from that will go towards relief efforts.
Black-Eyed Peas, who traveled out to Japan the week before the earthquake and tsunami hit, to shoot their latest video, have added a part at the end of their video, encouraging everyone to donate money to The Red Cross to help Japan.

Oscar winning actress Sandra Bullock announced that she has given $1 million to help victims of the disaster in Japan. So far, this is, by far the biggest individual donation by a single HOllywood star. In other entertainment news, Disney has donated $2.5 million to the American REd cross to be used for humanitarian efforts in Japan, AND has also promised to match employee donations up to a total of $1 million. Warner Brothers has pledged all DVD and Blu-ray sales of its movie "Hereafter" to the Red Cross efforts in Japan as well. "Hereafter" is the latest Clint Eastwood movie starring actor Matt Damon.
